I was given the name Jeffrey Anthony Agard. My mother, I was told, had a preference for the name Jerry. She was concerned however, that the only person whom she knew with that name, was comedian Jerry Lewis. She understood the importance of people taking me seriously even from the time of my birth it would seem,so I was given the name Jeffrey officially on my birth certificate, but called Jerry. I spent the first seven years of my life in the Sargeant’s Village and Clapham areas, and have memories of being in both districts. I attended Vauxhall Primary School in Vauxhall Christ Church until I was seven years old. I was awarded a prize for good academic work on one occasion while there.To the best of my recollection I received a hymn book.
