Na początku przedstawiono informacje na temat trudnego okresu życia, jakim jest młodość, oraz zadań rozwojowych, przed jakimi stoi młodzież. Następnie wyjaśniono, czym jest żałoba i czy proces żałoby przebiega etapami, czy też za procesem żałoby stoją zadania, które należy rozwiązać. Następnie przedstawiono, w jaki sposób młodzież przeżywa żałobę, co ma wpływ na proces żałoby i jakie są możliwe reakcje żałobne. Uwzględniono również kulturę i religię. W kraju o zróżnicowanej kulturze istnieją różne kultury żałoby. Omówiono dwie największe religie w Austrii, aby zilustrować ich koncepcje śmierci. Opisano również wpływ rytuału pogrzebowego na osoby pozostałe przy zmarłym. Nacisk kładziony jest na to, w jaki sposób pedagodzy społeczni mogą pomóc młodym ludziom w procesie żałoby, wspierając ich.
