Este estudo investiga se a transmissão em diferido de palestras universitárias pela Internet melhoraria a retenção dos alunos inscritos numa aula introdutória de informática ao longo de seis semestres. A população deste estudo foi constituída por estudantes universitários de engenharia inscritos no mesmo curso numa grande universidade de investigação de um estado ocidental, em seis semestres diferentes. O mesmo professor leccionou todas as secções do curso, foram utilizados os mesmos manuais e software e o número de assistentes de laboratório/ensino foi exatamente o mesmo. As tarefas e os exames foram alterados, mas mantiveram o mesmo nível de dificuldade. Alguns alunos foram inscritos nos cursos em que o Webcasting não foi utilizado como ferramenta, enquanto outros frequentaram o mesmo curso em que o Webcasting foi utilizado com atraso.
