Il gambero rosso è attaccato da oltre 250 specie di insetti, di cui Helicoverpa armigera, Maruca vitrata ed Etiella zinckenella sono i parassiti polifagi più importanti sia ai tropici che ai sub-tropicali, a causa della loro ampia gamma di ospiti, distruttività e distribuzione su cowpea, mungbean, urdbean e favino. L’emamectina benzoato è un derivato semisintetico dell’avermectina, prodotto come metabolita di fermentazione dell’attinomicete del suolo Streptomyces avermitilis, con azione sia stomatica che di contatto. Tre cicli di irrorazione di Emamectina benzoato 5 WG @ 125 g/ha, a intervalli di 10 giorni a partire da 120 giorni dopo la dibbling, sono stati efficaci nel ridurre la popolazione larvale di H. armigera (5,81 n./10 piante; 84,26% e 4,93 n./10 piante; 85,67%), M. vitrata (4,52 n./10 piante; 85,00 e 4,30 n./10 piante; 85,00). 30 n./10 piante; 86,23%) e E. zinckenella (4,26 n./10 piante; 85,71 e 4,33 n./10 piante; 85,47%) rispetto al controllo non trattato (38,11 e 36,85 n./10 piante; 30,85 e 33,74 n./10 piante e 30,22 e 31,11 n./10 piante) negli esperimenti in campo della prima e seconda stagione. Non ha effetti dannosi su parassitoidi e predatori nell’ecosistema del redgram.
