L’attività antifungina dell’estratto acquoso di Chromolaena odorata contro la peronospora dell’Alternaria (Alternaria brassicae) è stata esaminata in vitro e in pianta. In vitro, l’estratto è stato in grado di inibire la germinazione conidiale e la crescita miceliare mentre, in pianta, il trattamento fogliare con l’estratto di C. odorata ha ridotto l’incidenza e la gravità della malattia in Brassica oleracea. Oltre all’estratto, anche Candida sp. è stata testata per la sua attività antifungina contro A. brassicae ed è risultata efficace contro la germinazione conidiale e la crescita miceliare, mentre in pianta non è stato osservato alcun effetto sull’incidenza e sulla gravità della malattia. L’estratto di C. odorata e Candida sp. non ha avuto alcun effetto sulla germinazione dei semi di B. napus e sull’induzione dell’attività della β-1,3-glucanasi.
