Il libro mira a individuare l’influenza dell’agricoltura intensiva sulla falda freatica e sulla qualità dell’acqua nel distretto agricolo intensivo del Tamil Nadu. Per identificare il distretto agricolo intensivo è stato costruito un indice composito. Per analizzare gli obiettivi, lo studio ha utilizzato dati secondari relativi al periodo 1980-2010. I risultati del modello probit mostrano che l’aumento della produttività delle risaie dovuto all’adozione di varietà ad alto rendimento ha una relazione positiva con quello dell’esaurimento delle acque sotterranee. L’aumento della superficie irrigua lorda sotto i pozzi tubolari ha una relazione negativa minima con il declino del livello delle acque sotterranee dovuto alla significativa ricarica delle acque sotterranee. Per analizzare l’influenza dell’agricoltura intensiva sulla qualità delle acque sotterranee, sono stati analizzati nel corso degli anni vari parametri fisico-chimici delle acque sotterranee come il pH, la conducibilità elettrica, Cl, Na, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Cu, ecc.
