O Paquistão é o sexto maior país do mundo na produção de cebola. A cebola pertence à família Alliacae e é uma cultura importante do Paquistão. Tem atividade antibacteriana, antiviral, antiparasitária, antifúngica e anti-hipertensiva, anti-inflamatória e antioxidante. É também utilizada em laboratórios para impedir o crescimento de microrganismos específicos devido à sua atividade antibacteriana e antiviral. As perdas pós-colheita ocorrem devido ao manuseamento incorreto, ao apodrecimento dos rebentos e à desidratação. No estudo que se segue, a investigação foi orientada para o aumento do prazo de validade das cebolas através da utilização de radiações gama e também para a avaliação da composição nutricional das cebolas através de análises de proximidade antes e depois da radiação.
