Inquéritos realizados a jovens em vários países revelam níveis geralmente baixos de conhecimentos factuais relacionados com questões ambientais. Entre os exemplos contam-se estudantes que confundem ideias sobre fenómenos como o efeito de estufa e a destruição da camada de ozono, ou que demonstram uma fraca compreensão de processos como a fusão ou a reciclagem. No meio de numerosos, crescentes e complexos problemas ambientais, os académicos acreditam que a Educação Ambiental tem um enorme papel na formação do conhecimento e da atitude das pessoas, e é altamente prática na motivação para melhorar e proteger o ambiente. Por conseguinte, este trabalho examinou o nível de sensibilização e a eficácia da educação ambiental entre os estudantes do ensino superior. Foi utilizado um questionário estruturado e auto-elaborado numa amostra de cem (100) estudantes para obter informações sobre os seus conhecimentos em matéria de educação ambiental.
