La crise écologique menace de détruire l’humanité et la Planète tout entière. Elle se traduit par le changement climatique, l’accélération de la dégradation des écosystèmes, ou encore la perte de la biodiversité. L’écologie a essayé de trouver des solutions à ces problèmes préoccupants, mais elle est restée superficielle parce qu’inscrite dans le même logos qui a mis l’humanité dans ces difficultés. Arne Naess propose de compléter cette approche avec une nouvelle: l’écosophie. Pour Naess, la crise écologique exige une analyse métaphysique, ontologique et systématique de la problématique environnementale irréductible à la seule réflexion éthique dont ont tendance à se réclamer la majorité des philosophies de l’environnement. Il propose de changer notre vision du monde en repensant profondément le rapport de l’Homme à la nature. A l’opposition objet/sujet, nature/Homme propre à la science classique, Naess substitue une écosophie qui intègre l’Homme et la nature dans un processus métaphysique sur la base d’harmonie et d’équilibre cosmiques. Ainsi, l’écosophie établit une relation étroite et constitutive entre l’Homme et le cosmos.
