This book presents the cost-effectiveness evaluation of the Projet de Prévention du VIH/SIDA en Afrique Centrale (Case of Cameroon). Based on data from the Knowledge Attitudes and Prevention (KAP) surveys, and quarterly project monitoring reports, we conducted an economic evaluation of the PPSAC during the first two (02) phases of implementation. The study also attempted to put a monetary value on the benefits provided by the project in terms of care costs (infections) saved. Our analyses and calculations enable us to estimate the cost of getting an individual to adopt a lower-risk behavior at around 12,000 CFA francs, and the cost per correct knowledge of HIV prevention acquired at around 24,000 CFA francs. Furthermore, the cost per HIV infection averted during phase I is estimated at nearly 372,000 F CFA, and during phase II at 767,000 F CFA; this difference is significant. In addition, for every 1 F CFA invested in the PPSAC during the first two phases, 6.75 F CFA are saved in terms of expenses for the management of infections that would have been contracted if the project had been implemented.
