《诗人王荩臣生活的时代》系根据传主王荩臣及其所处时代的真实史料整理编辑。王荩臣，字念祖，1882年生于山西省浑源州一耕读世家，1900年考取浑源州童生案首，1902年成为山西大学堂西斋首届大学生，师从传教士李提摩太。同年参加山陕两省并科乡试，以20岁年龄考取山西举人第二十六名。1905年重返山西大学堂西斋法科，1911年毕业，进京賞进士。同时期参加山西同盟会。1911年辛亥革命爆发，参加山西辛亥革命。自1913年开始，进入中華民國山西司法界，历任太原地方审判庭推事，山西高等法院推事，榆次地方法院院长，山西高等法院院长、中華民國山西省公务员惩戒委员会委员等职务。1957年中共反右运动中被打成右派。1973年于浑源坐化离世。2017年，由其长子誊抄的《王念祖诗集》在山西出版。本书以图片、史料，试图还原一个中国传统知识分子在大动荡时代的个人命运以及家族命运。 3
