Jej celem jest analiza dwujęzyczności dzieci w wieku od 4 do 6 lat, urodzonych w Brazylii w rodzinach wenezuelskich mieszkających w Wenezueli, które rozpoczynają naukę w brazylijskiej szkole położonej na granicy Brazylii i Wenezueli. W socjolingwistycznie złożonym środowisku, w którym Brazylijczycy i Wenezuelczycy mieszkają razem, mówiąc zarówno po hiszpańsku, jak i portugalsku, starałem się odpowiedzieć na następujące pytanie badawcze poprzez badania jakościowe i interpretatywne: W jaki sposób dzieci urodzone w Brazylii w rodzinach wenezuelskich mieszkających w Santa Elena de Uairén/VE wpisują się w działalność brazylijskiej szkoły granicznej? Badania etnograficzne pozwoliły mi wykazać, że nauczyciele mają trudności z radzeniem sobie z różnicami językowymi i kulturowymi tej „mniejszości' podczas zajęć szkolnych. Oprócz obserwacji oporu niektórych uczniów przed nauką języka i zwyczajów Brazylii, w taki sam sposób, w jaki symbole narodowe generują konflikty tożsamości.
