Praca dzieci jest zjawiskiem powszechnym na całym świecie, ale więcej uwagi należy poświęcić krajom rozwijającym się, takim jak Bangladesz. Większość z nas uważa pracę dzieci za wyzyskującą i społecznie niedopuszczalną. Badanie pracy dzieci jest jednak ważne nie tylko ze względów fizycznych i psychologicznych, ale także ekonomicznych. W Bangladeszu pracujące dzieci mogą wygodnie pracować w przemysłowych, zmechanizowanych, małych fabrykach, zakładach metalurgicznych, konstrukcjach i hotelach, a także w kilku nieformalnych segmentach działalności. Ważnym skutkiem pracy dzieci jest rozwój demograficzny. Ogólnie rzecz biorąc, biedne kraje o wysokim wskaźniku przyrostu naturalnego charakteryzują się wyższym wskaźnikiem pracy dzieci. Praca dzieci stanowi istotną przeszkodę w osiągnięciu powszechnej edukacji podstawowej i innych Milenijnych Celów Rozwoju w Bangladeszu. Nie tylko szkodzi ona dobrobytowi poszczególnych dzieci, ale także spowalnia wysiłki na rzecz redukcji ubóstwa i rozwoju kraju. Cierpią one również z powodu problemów z oddychaniem, bólu fizycznego, problemów ze wzrokiem, przeziębienia i gorączki, drobnych urazów i chorób skóry. Głównym celem tej pracy jest uświadomienie nam, że wszystkie one są dziećmi i wszystkie chcą wieść szczęśliwe życie.
