O trabalho infantil é um fenómeno mundial, mas é necessário dar mais atenção aos países em desenvolvimento, como o Bangladesh. A maioria de nós considera o trabalho infantil explorador e socialmente inaceitável. O estudo do trabalho infantil é, no entanto, importante não só do ponto de vista físico e psicológico, mas também económico. No Bangladesh, as crianças trabalhadoras sentem-se à vontade para trabalhar em fábricas industriais, mecanizadas e de pequena escala, metalúrgicas, construções e hotéis, bem como em várias actividades do segmento informal. Um efeito importante do trabalho infantil é o desenvolvimento demográfico. Em geral, constata-se que países pobres com altas taxas de crescimento populacional têm maior incidência de trabalho infantil. O trabalho infantil constitui um importante obstáculo à consecução do ensino primário universal e de outros objectivos de desenvolvimento do milénio no Bangladesh. Não só prejudica o bem-estar das crianças individualmente, como também atrasa os esforços nacionais mais alargados de redução da pobreza e de desenvolvimento. As crianças também sofrem de problemas respiratórios, dores físicas, problemas de visão, constipação e febre, ferimentos ligeiros e doenças de pele. O principal objetivo deste trabalho é fazer-nos lembrar que todas elas são crianças e todas elas querem ter uma vida feliz.
