Dieses Buch ist die deutsche Ausgabe des in französischer Sprache erschienenen Werks 'Chambres d’equilibre', dessen dritte Auflage im Jahre 1958 im Verlag P. Feissly, Lausanne, herauskam. In seiner ur­ sprünglichen Fassung war es ausschließlich für Unterrichtszwecke be­ stimmt. Da das Buch jedoch auch bei in der Praxis stehenden Ingenieuren Beachtung fand, wurde eine zweite Auflage herausgegeben, die rasch vergriffen war. Die dritte Ausgabe in französischer Sprache wurde durch einen neuen Abschnitt zum Studium des Wasserstoßes nach dem Ver­ fahren von BERGERON-SCHNYDER ergänzt. Bei dieser Gelegenheit wurde die Tatsache hervorgehoben, daß der Wasserstoß und die Schwingungs­ vorgänge im Wasserschloß lediglich zwei verschiedene Ausdrücke des­ selben Phänomens sind. Die zur Berechnung dieser Vorgänge heran­ gezogenen graphischen Verfahren von BERGERON-SCHNYDER (Wasser­ stoß) und von SCHOKLITSCH (Schwingungen im Wasserschloß) führen zu übereinstimmenden Ergebnissen. Ferner wurde ein Abschnitt über besondere Anwendungen der be­ schriebenen Berechnungsverfahren an Hand von Beispielen ausgeführter Anlagen hinzugefügt. Im besonderen wurde die Wirkungsweise eines Regulierwasserschlosses für eine Druckreduktionsvorrichtung am oberen Ende des Druckstollens und die eines Ausgleichsbeckens auf ein Wasser­ schloß in einer Triebwasserleitung zwischen zwei Zentralen untersucht. Die neue deutsche Ausgabe des Buchs entspricht, abgesehen von kleinen Ergänzungen, der dritten Ausgabe in französischer Sprache. Lediglich der VIII. Abschnitt über besondere praktische Anwendungen wurde durch die Untersuchung des Falls eines. Wasserschlosses im Unter­ wasserstollen erweitert. Lausanne, im September 1962 A.
