La présente étude sur la diversité biologique du phytoplancton marin le long des eaux côtières de Veraval a été menée le long de la côte de Saurashtra. Des échantillons d’eau ont été prélevés tous les quinze jours à deux endroits différents. Trois sites espacés de 20 mètres ont été identifiés pour le prélèvement d’échantillons à ces deux endroits. Cinquante litres d’eau de mer ont été filtrés à l’aide de tamis sur les six sites afin de collecter le phytoplancton. Les cinq classes de phytoplancton marin identifiées étaient les Bacillariophyceae, les Dianophyceae, les Cyanophyceae, les Chlorophyceae et les Chrysophyceae. Au total, 158 espèces de phytoplancton marin ont été collectées, dont neuf n’ont pas pu être identifiées. Les diatomées constituaient le groupe le plus dominant (129 espèces), suivies des dianoflagellés (11 espèces), des algues bleu-vert, des chromatophores bruns ou orange et des algues vertes.
