A romã (Punica granatum L.) é uma importante cultura frutícola na Índia e em países subtropicais do mundo. Ela está sujeita a vários problemas de doenças e ferrugem bacteriana causada por Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. Punicae. Marcadores moleculares baseados na reação em cadeia da polimerase (PCR) são ferramentas úteis para detectar variações genéticas em populações de fitopatógenos. A análise do polimorfismo RAPD em isolados de células únicas de X. axonopodis pv. punicae de diferentes partes dos distritos de Nashik revelou a ocorrência de um alto nível de polimorfismo (79,87%), indicando uma base genética ampla e diversificada. Entre os 10 primers usados para detectar a diversidade genética dos isolados, 6 primers exibiram boa amplificação. Os 4 primers restantes mostraram amplificação muito fraca.
