Diese Studie fasst die Ergebnisse von 30 Jahren unserer Experimente mit Vicia faba L-Samen zusammen. Vicia faba-Samen wurden als optimales Modell für die Untersuchung eines Lagereffekts ausgewählt. Sie wurden sowohl mit einem nicht alkylierenden Mutagen (MH) als auch mit einem alkylierenden Mutagen (MMS) behandelt und bei einem Wassergehalt von 50 % für 0, 14 und 28 Tage gelagert. Die Auswertung mit CAs, SSBs, DSBs und UDS zeigte, dass diese Methode ein allgemeines Phänomen zur Verbesserung der DNA-Reparaturkapazität darstellt. Dies wurde auch im Fall der Alterung von V. faba-Samen mit einem Verjüngungseffekt bestätigt.
