Angesichts dieser Tatsachen ist die Banane (Musa spp.) eine der wichtigsten Früchte der Welt und wird als ergänzendes Nahrungsmittel in der Ernährung des größten Teils der Bevölkerung angesehen. Bananen sind von großer sozialer und wirtschaftlicher Bedeutung, da sie als Einkommensquelle für viele Bauernfamilien dienen, Arbeitsplätze auf dem Land und in der Stadt schaffen und zur Entwicklung der Regionen beitragen, in denen sie produziert werden.
