K. Poppers Sozialphilosophie ist wenig rezipiert. Trotzdem stellt das Modell der Offenen Gesellschaft einen wichtigen und alternativen Lösungsvorschlag zu zahlreichen anderen Formen des Zusammenlebens dar. Aber was meint 'Offene Gesellschaft'? Die Arbeit versucht dieser Frage unter historischen (Teil 1) und konzeptionellen (Teil 2) Gesichtspunkten nachzugehen. Dabei werden einmal die wirkungsgeschichtlichen Zusammenhänge kritischer Sozialphilosophien und ihr Bezug zu K. Popper deutlich. Gleichzeitig kann das Modell inhaltlich gegenüber dem Utilitarismus, aber auch gegenüber kommunitaristischen und neo-liberalen Gesellschaftstheorien abgegrenzt werden. Der Schwerpunkt liegt jedoch nicht in einer negativen Abgrenzung, sondern viel eher im Aufweis positiver und inhaltlicher Merkmale. In einer textimmanenten Auseinandersetzung mit den soziologischen und sozialphilosophischen Schriften K. Poppers wird deutlich, dass das Modell der Offenen Gesellschaft eine Reihe inhaltlicher Merkmale hat, die sich aus den Grundannahmen des kritischen Rationalismus ableiten lassen und innerhalb der Soziologie der Gegenwart einen alternativen Diskussionsbeitrag darstellen können.
