Nos últimos anos, a atual crise energética no Chile levou a considerar diferentes fontes de energia renovável, nas quais a biomassa florestal proveniente de plantações de crescimento rápido (Eucalyptus sp.) desempenha um papel importante. O objetivo deste estudo foi encontrar áreas adequadas (brutas e líquidas) para o estabelecimento de plantações de energia de madeira na província de Ranco, no Chile, utilizando como ferramenta o sistema de informação geográfica (GIS).
