Este estudo procurou identificar as questões e os desafios que as bibliotecas das escolas secundárias de Katlehong enfrentam. Muito poucas escolas na África do Sul têm bibliotecas escolares funcionais e as que as têm têm de as manter através dos seus próprios fundos e orçamento. O estudo agrupou 14 escolas específicas em Katlehong, professores bibliotecários, diretores, alunos, professores (discussão em grupo) e funcionários do Departamento de Educação para participarem no estudo. Foram utilizados entrevistas e questionários para recolher dados. Os resultados revelaram que as bibliotecas escolares em Katlehong enfrentam desafios que incluem falta de pessoal, colecções desactualizadas e inadequadas, livros mal organizados, falta de fundos e ausência de diretrizes e de liderança do Departamento de Educação.
