Cette étude visait à identifier les problèmes et les défis auxquels sont confrontées les bibliothèques des écoles secondaires de Katlehong. Très peu d’écoles en Afrique du Sud ont une bibliothèque scolaire fonctionnelle, et celles qui en ont une doivent l’entretenir avec leurs propres fonds et leur propre budget. L’étude a regroupé 14 écoles spécifiques de Katlehong, des enseignants bibliothécaires, des directeurs, des apprenants, des enseignants (discussion de groupe) et des fonctionnaires du ministère de l’éducation pour participer à l’étude. Des entretiens et des questionnaires ont été utilisés pour collecter les données. Les résultats ont révélé que les bibliothèques scolaires de Katlehong sont confrontées à des défis tels que le manque de personnel, des collections obsolètes et inadéquates, des livres mal organisés, le manque de fonds et l’absence de directives et de leadership de la part du ministère de l’Éducation.
