Dieses Forschungsprojekt hatte zum Ziel, die Ansichten von EFL-Lehrkräften an Hochschulen in den Vereinigten Arabischen Emiraten zur Bedeutung von Literatur im Sprachunterricht und zum Einsatz kulturell vertrauter Literatur im EFL-Unterricht zu untersuchen. Darüber hinaus sollte herausgefunden werden, ob das Lesen kulturell vertrauter Literatur im Vergleich zum Lesen kulturell weniger vertrauter Literatur einen positiven Einfluss auf das Leseverständnis von EFL-Studierenden hat. Um die Ansichten der Lehrkräfte zu ermitteln, wurde ein Fragebogen verwendet, und um zu testen, ob kulturelle Vertrautheit einen Einfluss auf das Leseverständnis hat, wurde eine explorative Studie mit 76 EFL-Studierenden durchgeführt. Zur Diskussion der Ergebnisse der Studie wurden quantitative und qualitative Messmethoden verwendet. Die Analyse der Forschungsdaten ergab, dass die Lehrkräfte die Bedeutung des Einsatzes von Literatur im Unterricht der Zielsprache anerkannten und den Einsatz kulturell vertrauter Literatur im EFL-Unterricht befürworteten. Die Ergebnisse der Verständnisprüfungen bestätigten ebenfalls, dass sich kulturelle Vertrautheit positiv auf das Leseverständnis von EFL-Schülern auswirkt.
