Dieses Ereignis verdeutlichte anschaulich das zunehmende Zerwürfnis zwischen der protestantischen und der katholischen Bevölkerung in der bikonfessionellen Stadt. Die Rede ist vom Augsburger Kalenderstreit 1583/84. Doch handelte es sich bei diesem Streit wirklich um ein rein konfessionelles Problem? Oder ging es nicht vielmehr um die politische Vormachtstellung in der Reichsstadt? Auf diese zentralen Fragen soll im Folgenden versucht werden eine Antwort zu finden.
