De Zonnemaagd is een toneelstuk in vijf bedrijven geschreven door August F. Ferdinand Von Kotzebue en gepubliceerd in 1800. Het stuk vertelt het verhaal van een jonge vrouw genaamd Amalia die opgroeit in een afgelegen dorpje in de bergen. Ze wordt beschouwd als een zonnemaagd, een soort van heilige die de zon aanbidt en de mensen in het dorp beschermt tegen rampspoed.Wanneer een groep soldaten het dorp binnenvallen, wordt Amalia verliefd op de kapitein van de groep, maar haar liefde wordt niet beantwoord. De soldaten nemen Amalia mee naar de stad, waar ze wordt geconfronteerd met de harde realiteit van de wereld buiten haar dorp. Ze ontmoet een jonge vrouw genaamd Rosalia, die haar helpt om te wennen aan het leven in de stad en haar leert hoe ze moet omgaan met de liefde.Het stuk behandelt thema’s als liefde, verraad, vooroordelen en de botsing tussen traditie en moderniteit. Het was een populair stuk in de 19e eeuw en werd vaak opgevoerd in theaters in heel Europa.
