Dave Darrin’s Second Year at Annapolis: Or Two Midshipmen as Naval Academy Youngsters is a novel written by H. Irving Hancock and first published in 1911. The book follows the adventures of Dave Darrin and Dan Dalzell, two midshipmen at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. As the title suggests, the story takes place during the second year of their education, as they continue to learn the skills and knowledge necessary to become officers in the U.S. Navy. Along the way, they face a variety of challenges, both personal and professional. One of the main conflicts in the book is the rivalry between Dave and a fellow midshipman named Hiram Nelson. Hiram is jealous of Dave’s popularity and success, and he goes to great lengths to undermine him. Meanwhile, Dave and Dan also have to deal with the usual stresses of life as a midshipman, such as difficult classes, physical training, and strict discipline.Despite these challenges, Dave and Dan remain committed to their goal of becoming naval officers. They work hard, support each other, and learn valuable lessons about teamwork, leadership, and determination. Overall, Dave Darrin’s Second Year at Annapolis is a classic coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of a prestigious military academy. It offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of early 20th-century naval education, as well as a timeless message about the importance of perseverance and friendship. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
