A cultura da oliveira, embora reconhecida pela sua extrema tolerância aos stresses abióticos, continua vulnerável a episódios de seca intensificados pelas condições climáticas, o que ameaça a sua produtividade. O estudo baseia-se numa abordagem integrada que combina análises morfofisiológicas, bioquímicas e proteómicas para elucidar os efeitos do stress hídrico severo no desempenho fisiológico das plantas de oliveira na fase de 'plântula jovem'. Os resultados destacam uma redução significativa do teor de água (RWC), uma diminuição da biomassa foliar e uma alteração das características morfológicas das folhas. As alterações na hidratação da fotossíntese e o aumento do stress oxidativo resultam em membranas celulares alteradas e no desempenho fisiológico reduzido das plantas de oliveira.
