Through interviews with journalists working on the ground and those who have covered the Syrian conflict, a semiotic analysis of these dialogues will help us understand how journalists make use of information from their sources to report on a conflict they cannot experience first-hand. We shall first examine how Western journalists are denied access to the field, then we shall study the types of sources used by French newsrooms, and finally, we shall look at what content French newsrooms prefer to select from among all their sources.
