Com base no livro de Elizabeth Bronfen: 'Over her dead body: Death, femininity and the aesthetic' (1992) e nas fotografias de moda de Guy Bourdin, este livro investiga o aumento das representações do cadáver feminino como belo e contido nas fotografias de moda e argumenta que tais representações constroem ligações perturbadoras e profundamente codificadas entre feminilidade, patriarcado e morte. O argumento explora ainda o corpo feminino morto 'como um objeto de visão' e fetiche em que o espetador masculino se torna o possuidor ativo do corpo feminino passivo (Bronfen 1992:xiii). Além disso, o trabalho de artistas feministas como Marlene Dumas e Penny Siopis, que retratam a morte feminina no seu trabalho, é explorado para comentar e questionar essas ideologias patriarcais. O objetivo é a subversão destas práticas, confrontando o espetador com um sentimento de abjeção e com o grotesco no seu trabalho.
