A alimentação das crianças com mais de 6 meses de idade continua a ser um verdadeiro problema de saúde pública. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o nível de conhecimentos, atitudes e práticas das mães da zona sanitária de Bagira relativamente à alimentação complementar. Trata-se de um estudo transversal descritivo, e a fórmula LUNCH permitiu-nos encontrar uma amostra de 384 mães que amamentam. Os dados foram recolhidos através de um inquérito por questionário na zona sanitária de Bagira. O nosso estudo mostrou que 99% dos inquiridos já tinham ouvido falar de alimentação complementar. Quase todos os inquiridos sabiam que a alimentação complementar é a introdução de alimentos para suplementar o leite materno aos 6 meses. A papa comum foi identificada como o primeiro alimento a ser introduzido por 9 em cada 10 inquiridos, ou seja, 91,8%, e quase todos (97,9%) mencionaram a idade de mais de 24 meses como a idade de desmame.É importante melhorar o conhecimento das mulheres sobre a composição das refeições a serem dadas às crianças para que elas tenham uma dieta equilibrada.
