Negli ultimi due anni, un conflitto di matrice terroristica ha devastato e assediato gli Stati del Nord-Est della Nigeria. Ciò ha spinto a condurre una ricerca sui mezzi di sussistenza della regione, concentrandosi sulla sicurezza alimentare e sui dati relativi alla mortalità nella zona del conflitto. Utilizzando un metodo di regressione simile a quello di D’Souza e Jolliffe (2013) in Afghanistan, la ricerca ha fornito una significatività statistica (P < 0,05) tra la variabile indipendente (mortalità) ricavata da acleddata.com e la variabile dipendente dei prezzi degli alimenti di base (miglio) del mercato regionale di Damasak setacciati da fews.net da luglio 2009 ad aprile 2014. È stato così individuato che il conflitto ha esacerbato i prezzi dei prodotti alimentari del 21% (0,21 R quadrato), con altri fattori che potrebbero aver contribuito per il 79%. Sono state formulate raccomandazioni a breve e a lungo termine.
