La Sierra de Las Damas est une montagne témoin qui, pour ses valeurs naturelles, a été déclarée zone protégée dans la catégorie des éléments naturels exceptionnels ; cependant, sa flore et sa végétation n’avaient pas été étudiées. Cette zone compte 449 espèces, appartenant à 312 genres et 94 familles ; sur le total, quatre espèces sont menacées d’extinction. La flore cubaine compte 42 espèces endémiques. Les familles botaniques les mieux représentées sont les Fabaceae et les Euphorbiaceae. Trois formations végétales peuvent être observées dans la végétation. Les indices écologiques montrent que la biodiversité est élevée.
