The pirarucu is considered the largest freshwater scaled fish in the world, measuring approximately 3 meters in total length and weighing over 200 kg. Due to over-exploitation, its fishing in the state of Amazonas is officially prohibited by IBAMA throughout the year, with the exception of cultivation or management areas, as has been the case in the Mamirauá Sustainable Development Reserve since 1999. Considering its relevance, this work aims to carry out an economic, social and environmental analysis of the community management of pirarucu (Arapaima spp.) in the Jarauá Sector - RDS Mamirauá, between 1999 and 2015.
