La sécheresse est le stress abiotique le plus préjudiciable et le plus tenace pour les efforts des sélectionneurs. Sous ses différentes formes, elle est à l’origine d’un tiers des pertes de rendement dues à des contraintes techniques pour le riz dans l’est de l’Inde. La présente étude a été menée afin de réaliser l’analyse génétique de 45 génotypes de riz, comprenant du matériel de sélection avancé et des contrôles standard pendant la saison kharif 2011, en vue d’évaluer leur tolérance à la sécheresse et de déterminer l’association entre différents traits morpho-physiologiques et le rendement en grains dans différentes conditions de stress hydrique contrôlées. Les performances moyennes obtenues dans les trois conditions environnementales indiquent une réduction substantielle du rendement dans les conditions pluviales et en phase terminale de sécheresse.
