In Amazzonia centrale, la Nymphaeaceae Victoria amazonica è stata studiata nei suoi ambienti naturali, distribuiti in tre siti di acque miste e tre siti di pianura alluvionale, dove sono stati misurati il diametro delle foglie, l’altezza dei margini, la lunghezza del picciolo, la profondità della presenza e il pH. Inoltre, sono stati monitorati il ciclo vitale e la struttura fogliare e sono state registrate le caratteristiche morfologiche e anatomiche delle lamine fogliari, dei piccioli, del rizoma, dei semi, dei fiori e dei frutti, dall’inizio dello sviluppo allo stadio adulto. Infine, sono stati imposti diversi trattamenti di germinazione ai semi nel tentativo di chiarire le dinamiche di questo processo in condizioni naturali.
