Chatter Batter is a compilation of four stories written for preschool through the second or third grade, Each story targets one of four commonly delayed sounds of speech: ’l’, ’r’, ’s’, and ’th’. At the end of each story is an activity page for added interest. And at the end of the book there is pertinent new information on brain development and expert advice for reading to young children and a recommended method for helping the slow reader catch up.Laurie the Ladybug is a story about a little ladybug that plays make-believe in the leaves of a lilac tree. Richard and Rosco is a story about two friends who spend the day chasing rainbows. 'Rumble Rumble Rappity Flap, Oh my goodness what was that?'In The Secret City of Snails, you will learn a simple song to help you remember to be happy. In the story of Thing-a-ma-Jig and Thing-a-ma-Bob, Thing-a-ma-Bob helps Thing-a-ma-Jig not worry about spelling his name for the start of school on Thursday. All of the stories in Chatter Batter use audio bombardment and/or predictable text and encourages interaction which provides opportunity to model speech. By addressing ’l’, ’r’, ’s’, and ’th’, at this early age, a subconscious awareness is created that will help avoid bad speech habits which are often carried over into adult speech.

The past decade has overflowed in a raging stream of contradictions. As Paul du Quenoy’s globetrotting criticism reveals, the arts were in a ferment that matched profound and yet totally unpredicted social...
