Sie tragen in hohem Maße zur Phytodiversität der jeweiligen Ökosysteme bei. Sie verfügen über bestimmte biologische Besonderheiten, die es ihnen ermöglichen, solche Lebensräume zu besetzen. Die Chasmophyten haben einige anpassungsfähige Merkmale entwickelt, wie z. B. starke Wurzeln, mehrere Triebe, bodenständige Speicherorgane wie Rhizome, schuppige Rhizome, Zwiebeln und Knollen sowie winzige Samen. Das Vorhandensein von Drüsenhaaren, wasserspeichernden Zellsekretionsorganen, einer dicken Kutikula, dem Vorhandensein von verdickten Zellen usw. Daher sind Studien über die Chasmoflora nicht nur für das Verständnis der Flora einer Region von entscheidender Bedeutung, sondern auch für die Ergreifung geeigneter Schutzmaßnahmen.
