Jest to oryginalna praca wykonana przez trzech naukowców podczas pracy w obszarach dolnej części delty rzeki Tana na wybrzeżu Kenii. Inwentaryzacja zasobów naturalnych oraz badania podstawowe parametrów ekologicznych, społecznych i ekonomicznych w dolnej części delty rzeki Tana zostały przeprowadzone w celu udokumentowania aktualnego stanu zasobów naturalnych na tym obszarze. Stawia to zainteresowane społeczności lokalne w centrum dobrego, przyjaznego dla środowiska zarządzania ich zasobami biologicznymi, zgodnie z aktualnymi zmianami krajowymi i międzynarodowymi. Badanie przeprowadzono w dwóch częściach, obejmujących elementy społeczno-gospodarcze i biofizyczne. Miało to na celu umożliwienie szczegółowej analizy każdego z tych elementów. Komponent społeczno-gospodarczy został zrealizowany przy użyciu szeregu narzędzi partycypacyjnych, głównie partycypacyjnej oceny obszarów wiejskich (PRA), podejścia zrównoważonego utrzymania (SLA) oraz partycypacyjnego uczenia się i badań nad działaniem (PLAR). W komponencie biofizycznym zastosowano metodologię obejmującą przekroje, kwadranty, warstwowe pobieranie próbek, obserwacje, mapy bazowe, przegląd literatury i wywiady. Informacje te są istotne dla badaczy zajmujących się unikalnymi cechami tej ważnej i największej delty w Kenii.
