     在这个越来越极端化的世界上，左派与右派之间的理性对话还有可能吗？     作者的回答是，有。前提是，双方都放弃自己所信仰的是“绝对真理”的想法，并认识到社会治理并没有一个完美的终极答案。      作者认为，包括中国左派所信奉的马克思主义和右派所信奉的自由主义在内，西方文明的共同特征是过分强调人类的自私本能，其社会治理方式则重在保护个体权益以及限制自私之恶。中国文明则过分强调人类的群体依赖本能，对个体价值和权益压制多于保护。而自私与群体依赖同是人的本性，也是人类种群生存发展缺一不可的必须条件。      因此，左派与右派都应该跳出藩篱之外，学会用“谱”的概念来看待问题。人们的各种理念以及基于理念所设计的制度、架构，都不是绝对正确、永远有效的。社会治理没有一劳永逸的解决方案，我们只能采取以变应变的方法，构建能够及时对社会问题作出反应的充分灵活的治理机制。
