Muitos projectos no sector da construção na Nigéria sofrem atrasos consideráveis, excedendo assim a data de duração do projeto, o que conduz frequentemente a litígios e reclamações dispendiosas entre as partes. Por conseguinte, esta investigação apresenta as causas dos atrasos na construção e os factores que contribuem para esses atrasos. Foi discutida a tecnologia de ponta utilizada para resolver a questão dos atrasos. Com base na literatura, foi desenvolvido o enquadramento teórico. Consequentemente, foi realizado um inquérito por questionário a 93 dos principais intervenientes no projeto na indústria da construção da Nigéria, que inclui os empreiteiros, consultores e clientes. O índice de importância relativa de cada fator foi calculado e classificado e, de acordo com a classificação mais elevada destes factores, foram determinadas as causas mais importantes dos atrasos na construção que influenciam o sector da construção na Nigéria. Além disso, foi também determinada a tecnologia mais importante. Também foi efectuado o teste Kruskal Wallis. Foram revelados os factores mais importantes que contribuem para os atrasos de construção no sector da construção na Nigéria. Subsequentemente, os resultados desta investigação contribuirão para melhorar o desempenho no sector da construção.
