Cardinal Pole V3: Or The Days Of Philip And Mary, A Historical Romance (1863) is a novel written by William Harrison Ainsworth. It is the third volume in a series that focuses on the life and times of Reginald Pole, an English cardinal and theologian who lived during the reign of Queen Mary I. The novel is set during the tumultuous period of the English Reformation, when the country was torn between Catholicism and Protestantism. The story follows the life of Reginald Pole, who is forced to flee England after the death of his cousin, Queen Mary I. He travels to Rome, where he becomes a cardinal and works to promote the Catholic faith. Meanwhile, back in England, Mary’s successor, Queen Elizabeth I, is determined to eradicate Catholicism from the country. As the conflict between Catholics and Protestants intensifies, Reginald Pole finds himself caught in the middle. He must navigate the treacherous political landscape of 16th century Europe, while also grappling with his own personal demons. Along the way, he encounters a cast of colorful characters, including the infamous Mary Queen of Scots and the notorious pirate Francis Drake. Cardinal Pole V3: Or The Days Of Philip And Mary, A Historical Romance is a richly detailed and engaging novel that brings to life a fascinating period of English history. It is a must-read for anyone interested in the Reformation, as well as for fans of historical fiction and romance. In Three Volumes. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
