Bionomics of Pea Aphid, Acyrthosiphon pisum (Harris) on highland legume crops grown in Northwestern Ethiopia - O estudo investigou a preferência do pulgão da ervilha e a determinação do seu desempenho, a identificação das fases de crescimento susceptíveis de várias variedades de culturas de leguminosas, os padrões de voo e a monitorização no terreno e a dinâmica sazonal. O resultado do estudo revelou que todas as espécies e variedades de culturas foram colonizadas pelo pulgão da ervilha. No entanto, foram observadas variações na taxa de crescimento dos afídeos, na sua colonização, preferências e desempenho. A duração da infestação de pulgões da ervilha nas variedades de fava testadas após a exposição variou entre 4 e 6 dias em testes de escolha múltipla e 5 e 11 dias em testes de escolha dupla. No entanto, outras infestam num dia. A preferência e o desempenho do afídeo da ervilha nos testes de dupla escolha variaram consoante a combinação de escolhas alternativas. A infestação de pulgões da ervilha na fase final de crescimento da cultura (50 PS) mostrou um elevado número de apterous e alate do que na fase inicial de crescimento da cultura (6-LS). O número de vagens totais e cheias e o peso da biomassa das variedades de ervilha e lentilha infestadas a 50 PS foram significativamente mais elevados do que nas fases anteriores de infestação (50 FS e 6 - LS).
