Um den Ertrag von Zuckerrohr (Saccharum spp. hybrid) für die Ethanolproduktion zu bewerten, wurden elf Sorten untersucht: V91-8, V98-86, V91-01, V99-271, C323-368, V98-120, V99-236, B80-408, V00-50, V99-190, CP74-2005 während eines Produktionszyklus. Der Versuch wurde auf dem Feld der Universidad Nacional Experimental Sur del Lago 'Jesús María Semprum' (UNESUR) in einem randomisierten Blockdesign durchgeführt, wobei die Pflanzen aus der zentralen Furche jeder Versuchsparzelle (45 m2/Behandlung) ausgewählt wurden. Die bewerteten Kriterien waren: Produktion in Tonnen Zuckerrohr pro Hektar (TCH), Tonnen Zucker pro Hektar (TAH), Prozentsatz der Polysaccharide (% POL), Liter Ethanol pro Hektar (LtEt/hA), Effizienz (LtEt/TC) und Konzentration des produzierten Ethanols. Die Ergebnisse zeigen nicht signifikante Unterschiede zwischen den Behandlungen durch den Sorteneffekt für die Variable TAH und hoch signifikant für die Effizienz (LtEt/TC) (p ≥ 0,001) und die Ethanolkonzentration (p ≥ 0,001). Venezuela kann Ethanol aus Zuckerrohrkulturen im südlichen Bereich des Maracaibo-Sees herstellen.
