Beyond the Horizon is a three-act play written by Eugene O’Neill. The play is set in rural New England and follows the story of two brothers, Robert and Andrew Mayo, and their family’s struggles with love, duty, and ambition. Robert dreams of leaving the farm to become a sailor, while Andrew is content to stay and work the land. However, their plans and relationships are complicated when Ruth, a childhood friend and love interest, returns to the farm after years away. As the story unfolds, the characters must confront their deepest desires and the consequences of their choices. Beyond the Horizon is a poignant exploration of the human condition and the search for meaning and fulfillment in life. It was first performed in 1920 and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1921.1920. Generally agreed to be one of the most significant forces in the history of the American theater, O’Neill is a three-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize. Beyond the Horizon is the playwright’s first full-length drama and winner of the Pulitzer Prize. It concerns two brothers in love with the same woman. Robert Mayo, who had dreamed of adventure beyond the horizon, remains behind and weds the lady in question, while his brother, Andrew, goes to sea. In the end, embittered and dying, Robert dreams of the escape that lies beyond the horizon.
