Eine Untersuchung über die Wirtspräferenz des Hülsenfruchtkäfers (Callosobruchus maculatus Fabricius) in Taubenerbse und seine Bekämpfung wurde in der Hülsenfrucht-Forschungsstation der S. D. Agricultural University, Gujarat, durchgeführt. Die Untersuchungen ergaben, dass Kuhbohne, Mungbohne, Mottenbohne und Taubenbohne die bevorzugten Wirte waren, während Pferdebohne, Kichererbse, Ackerbohne und Schwarzbohne die am wenigsten bevorzugten waren. Kidneybohne wurde als nicht bevorzugter Wirt gefunden.Die Studie untersuchte auch die biochemischen Grundlagen der Wirtspräferenz und stellte fest, dass der Gesamtgehalt an löslichen Zuckern, Gesamtphenol und Gesamtgerbstoffen die Wachstumsparameter erheblich beeinflusste. Hohe Gehalte an Gesamtphenol und Gesamttannin wirkten sich nachteilig auf das Wachstum und die Entwicklung von C. maculatus aus, während hohe Gehalte an löslichem Gesamtzucker die Entwicklung begünstigten.Für das Management bot schwarzes Paprikapulver in einer Menge von 2,5 g pro 100 g Saatgut einen 100-prozentigen Schutz der Taubenerbsensamen gegen den Hülsenfruchtkäfer (C. maculates), ohne die Keimung zu beeinträchtigen. Diese Erkenntnisse können dazu beitragen, wirksame Bekämpfungsstrategien für den Hülsenfruchtkäfer bei Taubenbohne und anderen bevorzugten Wirtspflanzen zu entwickeln.
