Inhaltsangabe:Einleitung: Begräbniszeremoniell und Staatlichkeit – welchen Zusammenhang gibt es zwischen politischem Verständnis eines Königs und seinem Begräbnis ? Dieser Frage wird in der vorliegenden Examensarbeit exemplarisch nachgegangen. In der vorliegenden Arbeit soll untersucht werden, inwiefern die symbolische Sprache des Begräbniszeremoniells von Karl IV. ein Bild von einer bestimmten Ordnung entwirft. Friedrich Bruck beschrieb die Einstellung des Menschen zum Tod mit den Worten: „[Wie] die Menschen sich zum Tode einstellen, bestimmt ihre Haltung gegenüber dem Leben“. Somit läßt sich auch aus dem Begräbnis sehr viel über das Leben des Verstorbenen und seiner Umwelt ablesen. Welche Aussagen werden über „Staat“ und König im Begräbniszeremoniell getroffen? Was soll dem Publikum dieses öffentlichen Ereignisses und der Leserschaft der oben zitierten Aufzeichnungen mitgeteilt werden? Für die Beantwortung dieser Fragen ist die Betrachtung der Grablege Karls IV., der Aufbahrung, des Trauerzuges und des Opferganges bedeutsam. Insbesondere die Rolle von Ort und Wahl der Grablege wird dabei aber nur auf dem Hintergrund des Wissens um Karls Herrschafts- und Traditionsverständnis offenbar werden. Demzufolge soll dieses und das zeitgenössische Verständnis von König und Herrschaft hinführend erörtert werden. Auch wenn der Charakter eines Zeremoniells vermuten läßt, daß sich daraus allgemeine Aussagen zu Königs-und Kaiserbegräbnisssen machen lassen, soll diese Arbeit nur konkret am Beispiel Karls IV. das Zeremoniell und die Funktion ihrer Bestandteile erschließen. Gang der Untersuchung: Der erste Teil der Arbeit beschäftigt sich zunächst mit dem allgemeinen politischen Verständnis Kaiser Karls IV., wobei seine testamentarischen Verfügungen sowie die Wahl der Grablege eine große Rolle spielen. Gegenstand dieser Erörterung ist auch die Frage, ob Karl IV. sich in luxemburgischer oder premyslidischer Tradition sah. Im weiteren Verlauf wird die Sterbe – und Begräbn
