Sanitation is a set of measures adopted to preserve or alter the conditions of the environment in order to prevent disease, promote health, improve the population’s quality of life, individual productivity and facilitate economic activity. Part of the Brazilian population lives in places where sanitation conditions are still very poor. Due to the lack of sanitation and minimal hygiene conditions, the population is subject to various types of illness such as diarrhoea, cholera, hepatitis A, dengue, chikungunya, zika, yellow fever, schistosomiasis and leptospirosis.
