Status taksonomiczny Musanga cecropioides R.Br. i Myrianthus arboreus P.Beauv. był problematyczny. W niniejszym badaniu przeprowadzono morfologiczne, anatomiczne, fitochemiczne, fitogeograficzne, DNA i numeryczne analizy taksonomiczne Musanga cecropioides i Myrianthus arboreus w celu odpowiedniej klasyfikacji tych gatunków. Anatomia liści i ogonków liściowych wykazała obecność niegruczołowych trichomów, dobrze ułożonych wiązek naczyniowych C₃ w ogonku liściowym i środkowej części liści obu gatunków. Z liści obu gatunków wyizolowano flawonole i glikoflawony. Musanga cecropioides i Myrianthus arboreus są sympatykami w większości ich zasięgu występowania. Wartości uzyskane z odczytu spektrofotometrycznego DNA wyekstrahowanego z liści obu gatunków wyniosły odpowiednio 1,56 i 1,19. Numeryczna analiza taksonomiczna 56 cech uzyskanych od M. cecropioides i pięciu gatunków Myrianthus została przeprowadzona poprzez obliczenie wskaźników podobieństwa i odległości, a następnie analizę skupień i konstrukcję dendrogramu w celu wizualnej oceny relacji taksonomicznych między tymi gatunkami.
