Esta obra tiene el propósito de rendir homenaje a Beethoven en el centenario de su muerte, ofreciendo un trabajo que pue pueda ser útil hoy o en lo por venir a los estudios de historia musical practicados en nuestro idioma. Apenas es preciso recordar lo que en e1 arte sonoro representa la sinfonía. Su periodo más extraordinario es el beethoveniano. La materia relativa a cada composición se encuentra dividida en dos secciones: una puramente histórica y otra crítica, dedicada al respectivo análisis. La parte analítica se halla realizada minuciosamente, en forma que pueda servir de estudio a los alumnos de composición y estética musical, como también a los aficionados que posean ciertos conocimientos. 4
